GALL Trainee Scholar Award Fund for Excellence in Cardiovascular Research
The GALL Trainee Scholar Award Fund for Excellence in Cardiovascular Research was established by ASIP member Dr. Jonathon Homeister in honor of his mentors in the field of cardiovascular pathology. The fund name is derived from the first initials of his mentors' last names: Dr. David Gordon, Dr. Gerald Abrams, Dr. Benedict Lucchesi, and Dr. John Lowe.
Candidates who apply for a GALL Trainee Scholar Award will need to submit an award application along with the successful submission of their abstract to an ASIP Topic Category for the ASIP Annual Meeting. The awardee will be chosen on the basis of excellence in cardiovascular pathobiology research.

Dr. David Gordon graduated from Amherst College and earned his MD from Harvard Medical School, where he also did a vascular biology research fellowship. He then trained in anatomic pathology and joined the faculty at the University of Washington. More recently, he was faculty and Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Michigan, directed a research group in Pfizer's Cardiovascular Therapeutics division, and then served as Dean for the School of Health Professions and Studies at the University of Michigan-Flint. He is currently the Dean of the College of Health Professions at The University of Akron. |

Dr. Gerald Abrams graduated from Wayne State University and earned his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School where he joined the Pathology faculty and practiced anatomic pathology from 1959 to 2002. He served as Director of Anatomic Pathology from 1985 to 1989, and has received numerous teaching awards from medical students and residents. He is now Emeritus Professor of Pathology. |

Dr. Benedict Lucchesi graduated from St. John's University, New York, and earned his MD and PhD (Pharmacology) from the University of Michigan where he joined the faculty and is currently Professor of Pharmacology. He served as the Director of the Upjohn Center for Clinical Pharmacology, and Director of Research for the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Lucchesi has received numerous teaching, research, and mentoring awards, including Lifetime Achievement Awards for Outstanding Research Mentorship, and Medical Education. He received 38 years of uninterrupted NIH-HLBI support including a ten year Merit Award. |

Dr. John Lowe graduated from the University of Wyoming and earned his MD from the University of Utah College of Medicine. He did residency training in clinical pathology and postdoctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine. He was faculty there before moving to the University of Michigan Department of Pathology where he was Professor and Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He was Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine before becoming the Senior Director of Pathology at Genentech.
