Verónica Contreras-Shannon, PhD, was appointed to serve as the Benjamin F. Biaggini Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at St. Mary’s University (San Antonio, TX) on August 1.

As of July 1, the ASIP welcomed six newly elected members for the 2025–2026 Council term. Congratulations to Drs. David Williams, Jr., John Hanna, Charleen Chu, Traci Parry, Ronen Sumagin, and Xiao-Ming Yin.

The ASIP is excited to announce the addition of the Excellence in Mentoring Award to our ASIP Meritorious Awards, which recognizes the outstanding achievements of our members in research, teaching, and leadership.

The 2026 recipient of the ASIP Gold-Headed Cane Award is Dr. Mark L. Tykocinski, Professor in the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, PA).

The 2026 recipient of the ASIP Outstanding Investigator Award is Dr. John W. Hanna, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA) and Associate Pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA).

The 2026 recipient of the Marilyn G. Farquhar Early Career Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Advancement of Women in Experimental Pathology is Dr. Melinda A. Engevik, Assistant Professor in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology at the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC).

The 2026 recipient of the ASIP Frieda Robscheit-Robbins Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Advancement of Women in Experimental Pathology is Dr. Patricia A. D’Amore, Charles L. Schepens Professor of Ophthalmology in the Department of Ophthalmology and Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA).

The 2026 recipient of the ASIP Cotran Early Career Investigator Award is Dr. Dennis Jones, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine (Boston, MA).
