august 27 webinar

August 27, 2026
1:00 PM (ET)

Description:
Join us for a live session on what editors actually look for in a graphical abstract — plus an open competition judged by senior editors of The American Journal of Pathology (AJP) and The Histochemical Society (HCS) Communications Committee.

Presenters:
Martha Furie, PhD
Editor-in-Chief, The American Journal of Pathology

Roberto Mota, MD
Host · Chair, HCS Communications Committee

Jody Longo, PhD
Co-Moderator, HCS Communications Committee

Competition Details:
Create an original graphical abstract for a previously published, peer-reviewed paper that does not currently have one. The paper does not need to be from AJP, but the graphical abstract must strictly follow AJP author guidelines for graphical abstracts. The competition will open following the webinar on August 27 and close on Friday, September 25 (11:59 PM EST).

Judging Criteria:

  1. Scientific accuracy and faithfulness to the source paper
  2. Visual clarity and design quality
  3. Adherence to AJP graphical abstract guidelines
  4. Communication of the paper’s central finding to a non-specialist audience
