The Committee for Equal Representation and Opportunity (CERO) oversees execution of the Society’s diversity, equality, and inclusion strategic plan. The Committee develops and monitors strategies to guide the Society’s efforts to foster diverse, equitable, and inclusive research, training, and professional environments within the Society and extending to the institutions of the Society’s members. The Committee will engage in collaborative partnerships on behalf of the Society with external organizations to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion across the biomedical research community.
The Chair-Elect and Chair of the Committee for Equal Representation and Opportunity (CERO) is elected by the membership. The Council appoints other members of the Committee from among various membership categories in sufficient numbers to enable the Committee to accomplish its stated functions. The Chair of the Committee for Equal Representation and Opportunity will nominate new members for the Committee when additional numbers or specific expertise is required. New Committee members will be approved by the Council. Members of the Committee will serve terms of up to three years and may serve consecutive terms. The President shall be a voting and ex-officio member of the Committee for Equal Representation and Opportunity. The Executive Officer shall be a non-voting and ex-officio member of the Committee.
