Dennis Jones, PhD, assistant professor of pathology & laboratory medicine at Boston University has received the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Moonshot Scholar Award. Jones was one of 11 researchers nationally who will collectively receive more than $6 million in the first year of their research
The award was developed to help the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative achieve the goal of inspiring and supporting world-class scientists from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups in the biomedical sciences. It aims to advance cancer science while also diversifying the pool of early-stage investigators and approaches to research funded by the NCI.

The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Gold-Headed Cane Award is Dr. Fred P. Sanfilippo, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Professor of Health Policy and Management, and Director of the Emory-Georgia Tech Healthcare Innovation Program at the Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA).
The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Rous-Whipple Award is Dr. Anindya Dutta, Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Genetics at the University of Alabama – Birmingham (Birmingham, AL).
The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Frieda Robscheit-Robbins Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Advancement of Women in Experimental Pathology is Dr. Martha B. Furie, Professor of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology in the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY).
The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Marilyn G. Farquhar Early Career Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Advancement of Women in Experimental Pathology is Dr. Magali Saint-Geniez, the Head of Age-related Macular Degeneration and Director of Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research at Novartis Biomedical Research (Cambridge, MA).
The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Robbins Distinguished Educator Award is Dr. Dani S. Zander, MacKenzie Professor and Chair in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (Cincinnati, OH).
The 2025 recipient of the ASIP Young Scientist Leadership Award is Dr. Nakisha S. Rutledge, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Prizker School of Molecular Engineering at the Chicago Immunoengineering Innovation Center, University of Chicago (Chicago, IL).
The 2024 recipient of the ASIP Gold-Headed Cane Award is Dr. Stephen J. Galli, Professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Mary Hewitt Loveless, MD, Professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine (Stanford, CA).
