Novel Education and Teaching (SIGNET) Scientific Group

The Scientific Interest Group for Novel Education and Teaching (SIGNET) is a home for educators within the ASIP and an integral component of the ASIP Education Committee. SIGNET is a broad coalition engaging teachers across the spectrum from high school through university, graduate, and medical education with a focus on promoting the foundational role of Pathology. Through annual meeting events and regularly-scheduled virtual sessions, SIGNET will provide support for developing educational skills, experience, strategies, and innovation; topics will include curriculum development, syllabus generation, incorporation of the social determinants of health, teaching to the current generation of students, and adopting new pedagogies and tools.

Goals:

  • Opportunities to teach and get feed-back on teaching for Trainees interested in Education
  • Opportunities for Faculty to share best practices
  • Programming at ASIP Annual Meeting:
  • Contribute to a session and other events at the ASIP Annual Meeting (e.g., Scientific Sleuthing for High School Teachers and Students, or Workshop for Graduate Education)
  • Direct outreach to local high schools or colleges local to the meeting venue
  • In-person advising regarding applying to MD, MD/PhD, and PhD programs for undergraduate students
