Neuropathology

Welcome to the website for the Neuropathology Scientific Interest Group (SIG). Our mission is to advance the understanding of the cellular and molecular pathogenesis of a broad spectrum of neurological diseases thereby enabling the development of new diagnostics and treatments for these devastating conditions.

The Neuropathology SIG provides a forum for interaction with both experts and trainees in the field, allowing members to initiate discussions, foster collaborations and network. By establishing an environment of intellectual exchange, we hope to promote cutting edge neuropathology research that encompasses basic mechanistic, experimental and clinical/translational investigations using state of-the-art approaches, technologies and model systems.

We welcome scientists at all levels of training and are committed to aiding in the scientific development of all experimental pathologists. Please consider joining this important SIG. You will not only strengthen your role in our Society but can help determine scientific programming for Annual Meetings.

Mission

The mission of the ASIP Neuropathology Scientific Interest Group is to advance our understanding of the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of a broad spectrum of neurological diseases enabling the development of new diagnostics and treatments that will lessen the burden of this disease in the United States and world-wide.

The objectives of the ASIP Neuropathology Scientific Interest Group are:

1. To create a community of neuropathology researchers that have a common interest in mechanisms of neurological disease and that are invested in identification of new genes, proteins, and pathways that represent targets for development of new molecular diagnostics, therapeutic strategies, and treatment modalities.
2. To promote cutting edge neuropathology research that encompasses basic mechanistic and experimental studies, as well as clinical/translational investigations, and employs state of-the-art approaches, technologies, methodologies, and model systems.
3. To create a conduit for effective outreach to neuropathology researchers (and others with an interest in neuropathology) and communication among neuropathology researchers for the dissemination of research news, notification of new research opportunities, and to encourage formation of new multi-disciplinary collaborative teams.
4. To engage current pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees that are interested in neuropathology research, ensuring that a new cadre of experimental pathologists will emerge that are well trained in all aspects of neurological disease and well prepared to conduct neuropathology investigations as they transition into research careers.
