The ASIP Cotran Early Career Investigator Award recognizes early career investigators with demonstrated excellence as an investigator who recently established independence and a research focus leading to an improved understanding of the conceptual basis of disease.

The award is named in honor of Dr. Ramzi Cotran and is partially supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Elsevier. There is no age eligibility requirement for this award. However, awardees will (i) be several years beyond the initial faculty appointment, (ii) have received extramural grant support as a principal investigator (or equivalent) beyond the level of a career development award, (iii) have at least a non-tenured faculty appointment (or equivalent) at the time of nomination, and (iv) be within 5-10 years of their initial faculty appointment (or equivalent) at the time of nomination.

Awardees will deliver an Award Lecture at the ASIP Annual Meeting. In addition, the awardee will submit a manuscript based on their award lecture that will form the basis of a peer-reviewed publication in The American Journal of Pathology. Eligible candidates for the ASIP Cotran Early Career Investigator Award must be an ASIP member in continuous good standing for at least two years immediately prior to nomination. Awardees receive a commemorative etched glass award. The ASIP Cotran Early Career Investigator awardee is recognized at the ASIP Annual Meeting.

Nominations for the ASIP Cotran Early Career Envestigator Award should include:

  1. Three letters of recommendation, including at least two from current ASIP members. Letters of recommendation should be updated in subsequent years if the nomination is renewed.
  2. The Nominee's curriculum vitae (CV), including a complete bibliography of published research. The nominee’s CV should be updated in subsequent years if the nomination is renewed.
