2007 DIAGNOSTIC SLIDE SESSION
Annual Meeting of the American Association of Neuropathologists
Washington, DC
Saturday, April 28, 2007
The Diagnostic Slide Session of the American
Association of Neuropathologists will be held as usual during the Annual
Meeting in Washington DC.
Members and guests who have cases, including genuine 'puzzles', that they
would like to have considered for inclusion in the Session should
contact Dr Tessa Hedley-Whyte, Neuropathology, Warren 325, Massachusetts
General Hospital, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114 or Email:
ehedleywhyte@partners.org. Telephone: 617 726 5154.
FAX: 617-724-1813. The deadline for
submission and consideration of cases for inclusion in the session is
November 1 2006. Contributors will be
notified of Dr. Hedley-Whyte’s decision the first week in December
2007.
Note that this is an earlier deadline in
order to have time for submitters to prepare their slides and submit them to
Dr. Hedley-Whyte for mailing them to the subscribers before our April 2007
meeting.
We may again use “virtual slides" (digital
images) of selected cases, in addition to the usual glass slides. Therefore
cases in which there are only very small amounts of tissue such as muscle
biopsies and stereotactic biopsies can be considered for inclusion in the
session as well as cases for which you, the submitter, can supply 150
stained glass slides to send to our subscribers. There is a
limit of one stained and one unstained slide and one transparency per case.
Cases with insufficient material for 150 glass slides could still be
submitted as two transparencies and no glass slides for the subscriber sets.
If you are willing to have images of your special stains posted on the web
after the meeting, I would ask you to supply then to me either prior to, or
at the time of, the meeting, for distribution after the meeting.
The Award for the Best Presentation of a Case
by a Trainee at the Diagnostic Slide Session has been named the "O.T.
Bailey-Helena Riggs Award" in honor of the founding Moderator and Manager of
the Diagnostic Slide Session. This award of $500 will be presented at the
awards ceremony of the American Association of Neuropathologists.
Members
may purchase a set of slides of the cases through the meeting website or
by sending a check for $60 US dollars payable to “Diagnostic Slide
Session” directly to the Manager, Dr. Leroy Sharer, Department of
Pathology, New Jersey Medical School, 185 South Orange Avenue, Newark,
NJ 07103, e-mail-
Sharer@umdnj.edu,
phone: 973-972-4770. Foreign checks, including Canadian, must be issued
through an American bank with a proper routing number. If payment is
made by an institutional check, please make certain that the
subscriber's name is listed on the check or the accompanying paperwork.
Only a limited number of sets (approximately 145) will be available for
distribution and these will be distributed on a first-come first serve
basis, so it is important to plan early to avoid disappointment. Slide
sets are limited to one per person. The protocols will be sent from New
Jersey and the slides from Boston about one month prior to the meeting.
Protocols for the Diagnostic Slide Session will be available without
charge at the meeting.
