Message from
the Program Chair
Charles A. Parkos, MD, PhD
The
next Annual Meeting of the American Society for Investigative Pathology
will be held in Washington, DC at the Washington Convention Center on
April 28-May 2, 2007, in conjunction with
Experimental Biology 2007. The ASIP is pleased to announce that the
annual meeting will be integrated with that of the
American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP), the
Histochemical Society (HCS) and the
North
American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO) and will include a diverse
and exciting program focused on symposia, workshops, special sessions, and
full-day, focused “mini conferences”. The three societies have been
working closely with ASIP to devise a program with broad appeal.
Additional sessions have been developed in conjunction with guest
societies including the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and
the Pulmonary Pathology Society.
The first day of the meeting will be marked by full-day conferences
centered on mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease and emerging
infectious diseases. Both events will integrate invited talks by leaders
in the field with presentations selected from submitted abstracts. A
keynote address by Dr. Floyd Bloom from The Scripps Research Institute
will be a highlight of the first day of the meeting. Symposia and award
lectures will focus on autophagy, developmental pathways in cancer
progression, vascular biology, vascular lung disease, epithelial polarity/endocytic
pathways, neurodegeneration, novel therapies targeting the inmate immune
system, pharmacogenomics/targeted therapies, pathobiology of
steatohepatitis, and stem cells/regenerative medicine. Workshops will
focus on tissue fixation for molecular analysis, tissue banking and sample
preparation. There will also be a Trends in Experimental Pathology
symposium focused on imaging and histochemistry. We will also be joined by
the American Society for Matrix Biology, the
Association for Pathology
Informatics, the International Society for Analytical and Molecular
Morphology, the International Society for Biological and Environmental
Repositories, the Society for
Cardiovascular Pathology and the
Società Italiana di
Patologia/Italian Pathology Society.
The program at EB2007 will also include programs targeting trainees and
young investigators including career development workshops, sessions that
showcase trainee research and an increased number of awards presented for
outstanding trainee research. A vital component of the program includes
abstract-driven minisymposia and poster sessions. We encourage submission
of your abstracts to ASIP topic categories covering a broad range of
research areas in experimental pathology. The program committee is
looking forward to receiving many abstracts that will contribute to the
success of this exciting meeting in Washington, DC. |
