The next Annual Meeting of the American Society for Investigative Pathology will be held April 2-6, 2005, in conjunction with Experimental Biology 2005.  The venue will be San Diego’s beautiful convention center, which overlooks San Diego Bay and is only steps away from the restaurants and shops of the renowned Gaslamp Quarter.  The ASIP Program Committee has assembled an exciting schedule of cutting-edge events, including symposia, workshops, special sessions, and, as has become a tradition, two full-day, focused “mini-conferences.”  EB2005 will also see the inauguration of an ASIP Keynote Lecture.  We are pleased that Dr. Inder Verma of the Salk Institute has agreed to be the first of what we expect will become a long tradition of distinguished keynote speakers.

At EB2005, our mini-conferences will focus on new developments in inflammation and the pathobiology of neoplasia.  Both events will integrate invited talks by leaders in the field, presentations by speakers selected on the basis of their submitted abstracts, and poster discussion sessions.  Nationally and internationally recognized investigators also will be speaking at our symposia, award lectures, and workshops.  Topics for symposia and award lectures include differentiation of stem cells, mechanisms of neuronal cell death, innate immunity at the epithelial barrier, environmental toxicology, the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, and applications of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics to pathology.  Workshops will focus on experimental and therapeutic control of gene expression, signal transduction in liver, and new technologies in investigative pathology.  Additional sessions on mutant animal models and scientific databases have been developed in conjunction with our guest societies, which include the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, American Society for Matrix Biology, Association for Pathology Informatics, International Society for Analytical and Molecular Morphology, Pulmonary Pathology Society, North American Vascular Biology Organization, and Society for Leukocyte Biology.

Our program at EB2005 also will continue our tradition of reaching out to trainees and young investigators through career development workshops, sessions that showcase research by our trainee members, targeted merit and travel awards, and a full-day course on basic concepts in pathobiology.  Of course, abstract-driven minisymposia and poster sessions are critical to making our program as strong and timely as possible.  We encourage you to submit your abstracts to ASIP topic categories, which cover a broad range of research areas related to investigative pathology.  We look forward to receiving your abstracts and to having you join us in sunny San Diego for what promises to be a truly stimulating meeting.
