Negotiation skills are critical to your success. Whether it is your first job or your next job, asking for what you want allows you to be effective and productive. But how do you ask for the things you need (and get them)? When and what should you negotiate? Why is this skill so important? And what strategies can you use to be a more effective negotiator?

After a brief introduction, this session will begin with a mock negotiation portraying a common but ineffective exchange. Three different speakers will then offer advice and a framework for discussion. Negotiation basics, the cost of failing to negotiate and some approaches to effective negotiation will be addressed. Strategies and information from the speakers will then be used in a second mock negotiation to provide an example of a productive negotiation. The last part of the session will be reserved for questions and a lively discussion on how we can all develop our inner negotiator.
